Day 3: Robots may never rule the world, but they are pretty darn cool!

Hello all!  I'm sitting in the hall chatting with some of the girls while they are getting ready for bed.  I would like to tell all the parents and families reading this, that you have raised some fantastic young ladies and young men.  They are so well behaved and have been polite, considerate, engaged, on time, and just an all around pleasure for the last few days.  I am sad to see the trip end tomorrow.  And, now, on to the update from today!
We were able to let the kids sleep in a bit this morning. It was fantastic, both for them and the adults! We took the train north to Evanston to tour Northwestern University.  A friend of mine from back home is currently working doing his doctoral work at the university, so he gave us a brief tour and talked to the students about graduate school and how he was able to get paid to get his masters degree.
Following lunch, nine students were able to tour the LIMS (Labaratory for Intelligent Mechanical Systems) with Jarvis, while the rest of the group had some free time to look around campus.  The lab was really interesting.  We got to see some great projects, that involved a lot of technology that I didn't fully understand.  Jarvis is currently working for on a project for Disney involving puppets and robotics.  It was a great opportunity for our students to see some options for college and what they can do with their future.
After Northwestern, we made a stop at Wrigleyville and took some pictures in front of Wrigley Field.  It was really great to see such a iconic landmark.  Even the White Sox fans in our midst were excited.
We spent the next couple of hours at the Magnificent Mile, getting some a little shopping done.  I think the kids had a ton of fun and found some pretty cool stuff.  They had two hours to check out the mile and a half of stores that are on Michigan Ave.  They are always so amazed at the sheer size of some of their favorites from back home.  A two story Forever 21 is just crazy!
We had a late dinner on Navy Pier at Capis, a pretty tasty Italian restaurant.  We were so late, that we nearly missed the fireworks on the pier.  But we made it just in time.  The fireworks were a great closing night activity and a great send off from Chicago.  It is hard to believe the trip is coming to a close tomorrow and we are heading home.  I hope that all the kids have had a great time and have learned a few things, discovered a little bit about the person they are and that they learned a little bit about what they would like in a college.
Tomorrow, we head to South Bend to visit University of Notre Dame.  And then, we hop on the plane and fly back to Denver.

  2. Be sure to leave the humidity in Chicago, but don't forget to bring Dan home. If he tries to make a last-minute dash for pizza in the airport - DON'T LET HIM!

    Safe travels superstars!
