Day 1: A Delay, A Long Walk and A Prison

So, let me just say that I love having the wireless Internet at the hotel this year! I will be able to update after our long days of walking all over with the students! I had the best of intentions of taking photos at the airport this morning, but was instead getting every one's sandwich order for dinner. So, the pictures start with our BART ride.
The airport, as always was a little hectic. We got to the gate, and our flight had been delayed until 9:55. And was then slowed down by the cattle call that is the Southwest boarding process. This put us into San Francisco about and hour and a half behind schedule. We had to skip UC Berkeley for today and head straight to our hotel to drop off the bags.

We rode the old trolley to Pier 33 for the Alcatraz Tour. Dinner was eaten next to the bay, where a few of the kids fed the pigeons and seagulls part of their sandwich and chips.

Alcatraz was a great tour! We took a 20 minute ferry ride out the island that provide some great shots of San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge and the island itself. It was a great way to start off our trip. The tour itself was really interesting and kind of eerie. We were able to walk around a lot of the island and got some great sunset photos from the southwest side.

It has been a very long day, and as the image uploading is not working currently, I am going to cut this post short. I will update tomorrow, hopefully with photos! We have been having a great time and the students have been amazing!
