Day 2: An Experience in the City

We had a great day in the city! There were lots of fun opportunities and places to see. We ate breakfast at the hotel and were on our way at close to 9 am. We rode the MUNI to SFSU for our tour. It is amazing how beautiful the urban campuses are. We had four current students meet the group and give us the tour. They chatted with our students about campus life, what they are majoring in and other great college advice. San Francisco State University is a smaller campus, so the tour was about 45 mins long.

After the tour, we had lunch in the student center cafeteria and gave the kids time to go purchase items at the bookstore. This is always a favorite for them and gives them all an opportunity to stock up on lots of great hoodies!

The afternoon provided a great chance for everyone to head out to explore the city a little more. One group headed to make up the UC Berkeley visit, another group rode the bus to the Golden Gate Bridge and my group head out to Ferry Market and Union Square for some shopping and sighting seeing. It seems that everyone was able to get to do at least one or two things they really wanted to do this afternoon.

Dinner tonight was a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. on Fisherman's Wharf. We had great seating at the restaurant and were able to enjoy our meal while looking out over the bay. It is really fun to watch all the ferries that are coming and going as well as look for the sea lions going for a swim. The kids played some great Forrest Gump trivia games and won prizes and Dan celebrated his 21st birthday (not really his birthday, nor is he 21)! We then had some free time at Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirradelli Square.

The trolley home tonight was crowded again! It is always an experience to ride on public transportation with 49 students. We were like sardines in a can, but we all managed to make it back!

And on a side note, we got lots of praise and compliments on the fantastic behavior of our students tonight from many of the staff members at Bubba's. They were very impressed with how well behaved they were and the fact that they were so polite and gracious! So...a thank you to you all as well for sending us with such great kids!!

I will add some pictures tommorrow night, as the camera battery is dead and is currently charging on the one outlet left in our hotel room!

Tomorrow: A bus, a beach and a bunch of kids!
