NC/DC Day 3

Day 3, June 10
Colonial Williamsburg! A visit that the adults were pretty excited for...the students took some convincing, but we all could have stayed a lot longer!
The living history museum gave the students a chance to see how the colonists really lived. And to see how the American Revolution played out in a colonial town. It helped many of the students get a better understanding of the information they had received in previous history classes.

We didn't have lots of time at Colonial Williamsburg, because we had to head to Washington, DC for our tour of Georgetown University. Arriving in Georgetown was exciting. The students were able to see parts of the area, as well as the campus. We crossed the Potomac River, passing Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon.
Georgetown University was a self-guided tour. We recieved maps of the campus and explored some of the buildings. We were able to have a couple of first year medical students talk to the students about getting into the Georgetown Medical program. It is extraordinary the number of students we have interested in a medical career.

After touring Georgetown and buying everything they had in the bookstore, we headed to dinner and then a tour of the monuments. We crossed our fingers at the monuments that the weather would hold and we would get through them before the rain came. We nearly made it, only having to miss FDR and Jefferson. We headed to our home for the next two nights, Laffayette Hall at George Washington University. We were six blocks from the White House and about six blocks from the Watergate Hotel (and, we got blank stares from all the students when telling them this).
